Venice Travel and accommodation
June 30 – July 11, 2025
There are many travel options available for getting to and from Venice. As the city is a popular tourist destination, visitors are well served by multiple accommodation types in the historical centre and surrounding areas including the Italian mainland. Venice Studio does not manage travel and accommodation for students, however, based on previous student experience and feedback the information below may be useful.
Travel
If you are arriving by plane:
Venice is serviced by 2 airports: Venice Marco Polo Airport and Treviso Airport.
Venice Marco Polo Airport
The closest airport to Venice and located on the edge of the Venice lagoon, it sees arrivals and departures of intercontinental and European airlines. Bus and boat transfers to Venice are available directly from the terminal including fast and efficient private water taxis direct to a desired location or waterbuses with multiple stops. Arriving to Venice by boat across the picturesque lagoon is highly recommended.
Treviso Airport
Servicing mainly European low-cost carriers, the airport is located 10mins south-west of the city of Treviso with regular connection to Venice by bus and train.
If you are arriving by train:
Venezia Santa Lucia station (Venice train station) is located in Venice. Visitors can walk to their destination directly from the station or board a waterbus from one of the many stops on the Grand Canal at the south side of the station. The station is efficiently connected to high-speed rail services arriving and departing from cities inc. Rome, Florence, Milan and Munich.
Accommodation
Hotels and hostels are, of course, available in Venice, however, many students choose to rent short-term apartments / houses via platforms such as AirBNB which tend to be more cost effective for stays of 2 weeks and enables sharing with others. Venice Studio does not provide or recommend accommodation, however, it manages a private platform connecting students with other students who wish to share accommodation together. Please contact Venice Studio should you be interested in this.
Venice is a surprisingly small city with its six districts all containing housing. Therefore, whether on foot or by waterbus everything, including the studio venue, is reasonably close. Sometimes, more affordable accommodation can be found in Mestre (the closest mainland town to Venice). Mestre is a very short and convenient tram or bus ride across the lagoon, however a fee to enter Venice is sometimes applicable if you do not have accommodation in the city.
