Venice Studio is a place for architects, young designers and students from around the globe to meet, talk, develop research and together, design projects for the city. At the heart of its educational and cultural mission is the belief in supporting future generations of architects, urbanists and designers from around the world through close mentorship with established international architects at the forefront of design-centred practice.

To date Venice Studio has welcomed young designers from 45 countries to its programs. Since its beginning in 2022 in Venice, an aim to balance three independent yet inter-related objectives has been sought: the production of innovative research and design proposals within the atelier/studio by teams of architects and young designers; opportunities for deep immersion in the host city via local identities, institutional partners, field-trips and site-visits; and, a strong desire for informal moments of shared joy and friendships around the city.

In 2025 the Tokyo program was launched and held at Hillside Terrace in Shibuya with Kengo Kuma and Associates, Sou Fujimoto Architects and Lütjens Padmanabhan. A symposium, in honour of the architect of Hillside Terrace, Fumihiko Maki, took place on the opening day of the program.

The themes and programs proposed by each architect at Venice Studio capture the imagination of the host city and capitalise on topical and timely issues related to that city. Architects bring their own ideas, processes, methods and workflows to bear on these issues while in the true spirit of the unbuilt project experiment with freedoms and ambitions difficult to justify otherwise.
